Beneath Thy Protection Sancta Dei Genitrix – the Theotokos “It is truly fitting to call you blessed, the Theotokos, ever-blessed and wholly pure and the Mother of our God.” (the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom)
It is truly right to bless thee, O Theotokos, ever blessed, and most pure, and the Mother of our God. More honorable than the cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim. Without corruption thou gavest birth to God the Word. True Theotokos, we magnify thee. (from the Theotokion – hymn – to the Theotokos)
Thanks, Yhun! It is actually lighter than it appears here… you can see more of the green in the actual photo.) Perhaps I’ve taken the Theotokos imagery a bit far – not something most Western Christians are exposed to outside of the Hail Mary, which is used primarily by Catholics.
