I was perusing the recent uploads tab…..this is a standout image, Ben! I use Lee ND grads, and very occasionally add an ND full to the mix, but that’s generally always for sunrise. I try not to shoot in the daylight hours when there’s clear skies, it’s just way too bright here!

As for long exposures, once again I have only done them seriously at sunrise. I can only offer this, you NEED a good quality tripod, a cable or wireless release, and a fair bit of practice. Just keep trying different apertures and shutter speeds, till you get the result you want. Water moves at different speeds in so many different situations, so no real formula is going to work every time, imho.

I should also point out I haven’t had much success with long exposures on waves AND HDR bracketting….the water movement just ruins the process too much. In that situation I use single file conversions…..either in photomatix or redynamix.

Bmail me if you have specific questions, I might be able to answer….or not. I seriously am still a learner…..honest!

    Happy new year!

I actually had a Hard time with the lighting on this shot. Trying to travel light I only had my wide attached. I got a bit more sky on the sides which had the usual horrible halo effect, of course i cropped it out.

i wish i had shots to share of turkey
but photography wasn’t an art expression when i went in 2000
it wasn’t until mid 07 when i went without a camera for 4 months
that i realized how much photography really was a part of me
it was agonizing~ when i finally shot again it was like a reawakening of a burning passion
and i’ve been on fire since…...
i spent two days in istanbul and another day in kushadasi
during a 21 day med cruise… yalta, yugoslavia, fort dubrovnik, santorini, corfu
to name a few… i wish i ended my trip in istanbul because the shopping there was incredible
and the prices – unbelievable… a wonderful experience
if i ever get out the shots they will need to be scanned, i’ll let you know
    ♥tonja

  • Ben Pacificar

    Ben Pacificar

Yes please do let me know when the shots are scanned. I havent been able to go traveling so I sometimes I just pretend im out there “Out N About” around the world with folks like Yourself.

Every once in a while you stumble across a shot that stops you dead in your tracks. This is one of those shots. I was looking the the faves of another Bubbler and this shot just jumped off the screen. I couldn’t tell exactly what it was on the thumb, but knew I had to see it full size. And so glad I did!
Remarkable composition…spot on lighting…and just enough color to pop (and grab my attention).
    BRAVO!
