Image of the Hawaiian Chieftain taken through the rigging of the tall ship Zodiac this summer at the tall ship festival in Tacoma, Washington. The Hawaiian Chieftain is a square topsail ketch similar in hull and rigging to 18th century Spanish exploration ships. She is 62ft (19m) at the water line with a beam of 22ft (7m), draft of 5ft (1.7m) and a displacement of 64 tons built in 1988 in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. You may have seen her in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
She’s beautiful! with the brick buildings in the background and the two sail-ers, and all the greenery it could have been taken a century or so ago. Yup, I thought I recognized the ketch. I didn’t spend all my time watching what’s his name! Try these: Nautical, Nostalgic Art and Photog, All Seascapes, Beach Art, All About Water, The Color of Water. THE PATCHWORK, BLOWING in the WIND. Best of luck with your artwork (not that you need luck!) We’re almost neighbors, you know. I live south of Oly, WA.

Wonderful capture. Thanks for sharing the information. The coast line is beautiful.
Thanks Carol. The coast line is of the city of Tacoma on the outskirts of the downtown area.

Majestic beauty. I love the composition of this too. Gives the feeling of being on one ship looking out to the other.
Thanks Gail, I was.
Excellent capture Bryan!
Thanks Gerry—I had a great time on the Zodiac, just wish there would have been a little more wind to fill the sails.
