Whitewashed windows of yet another victim of the downturn. The Jolly Sailor in Castletown, Portland, Dorset, UK
Maybe the olympics (due to be held there in 2012) would have saved it if they’d been a couple of years earlier.
Castletown was originally an old fishing community which became in early Victorian times, the central collection point for much of the stone taken off Portland.
It was also prosperous for it’s proximity to the Naval dockyard, which has since closed.
The old naval quarters are being redeveloped in anticipation of the Olympics in 2012, and so it’s hoped to recover some of it’s glory days.
