sang from the mist
guiding the ship’s sail in
fog filled anthems
rose in drifts
one voice
amid the din
the chosen
heard the call
summoning the child
of gentle eyes
and stories
out of the wild
older than life
the tall grass dancer
stands earthened faced
tasting the wind and sky
in bone and ash
a spear held high
casting his return
what’s given can’t be taken
nor what’s taken kept
the journey of the bloodline
flows back into the first
where ancient pools lie waiting
for all who share the thirst

As soon as I read the opening line I thought as Kristin has of Kundalini myself – this path to enlightenment – but in a mythic, more elemental setting. A kind of primitive awareness of connection that contemporary man seems to have forgotten, a hidden knowledge brought to the foreground at last. Each time you write, dear heart, it’s as if you are creating a new mythology for our time, the effortless flow of your words, the profound sensitivity of your images. This one will be around for many years, darling Butch. I’ve loved everything you’ve ever written but this one is very near the top of my favorites. Love it….love you, always.

There’s a long connection in all of us that goes back before time and to those who are willing to open their ancient souls to it will drink from its well and become a part of it.
