Man Talk

I know absolutely nothing of golf
And little of football or racing
I feel quite inferior, when down to the last of you
Sport is the chat that I’m facing

How do you remember the games that you watch
And the names of the players that play them
The particular scores over multiple years
When to me it’s just madness and mayhem

What of the novel you finished last week
The one with the intricate plot
Did you find it displeasing or boring or teasing
Or exciting or clever or hot

That radio play that you heard on four
With the love and the hate and the history
That made you want to change all the world
Discovering it’s really a mystery

Good luck with your goals and your par and your odds
Although you will seldom agree
I’ll smile and be happy and glad to be there
But I know what is waiting for me.
