Burtle's Blasted Willow

Held by roots to living earth
That bind whilst giving health
Green above when winter’s gone
Cool and wet beneath

Deep wrinkles pride your living bark
Yours is a very cavalier lean
But what makes the startling mark
Your trunk is split so clean

From tip to toe your heart is wide
Exposed for all to see
But still you cling to life itself
Your ancient call to be

Avalon framed by blue above
Moist green carpet is below
Your hundred years of silent wait
The time that passes slow

You marked the path when waters came
To mark the way in day and dark
Now you rest so quiet apart
Your rings the changes mark
