February Hope

Will it ever be dry again
And when will it be warm
How long before the sunlight dapples the ground
Beneath the leaves
And we hear the gentle humming of the bees

Will there be shade beneath the beech
Water from the cooling stream
Splashing and spinning
The day extending gently into the balmy night
With such a gentle breath of air

It’s time to move from winter’s clutch
Away from drifting snow or icy rain
And store them with those cutting , freezing blasts
Surrounding us
That together have lately taken charge

There are buds on the ends of the Beech twigs
The rooks are finding the chimneys
To fill and build their nests
The stinging nettles make their mark early
And the dark clouds move away from the levels

A touch of Gerard Manley Hopkins here and there . . . . a poem of hope I think . . . and confidence that before long the buds will burst and the birds will sing . . . . . we need this just now.

Love it. My favourite lines… Spalshing and spinning and… the dark clouds move away from the levels.
