Well at last my time has come
And I must say goodbye
I will hand my notice in
With just a little sigh
Maybe if I’m honest
Perhaps some more as time draws nigh.
It will be October’s first
My final working day, I think
The day before my birthday
A glass or two I’ll sink
The parting of the ways for us
As past meets future, ever there’s the link.
These few weeks will pass
Fewer things to start and more to end
Fond and not so fond farewells
True and not so true best wishes send
Between the past and present
Time past to make those bridges mend.
So please accept my parting letter
Even if it comes in verse
It means as much as if in prose
Even if you might think it worse
From me farewell, adieu, so long
These lines from me I’ll not reverse.
So thanks for nearly forty years
Those many hours I’ve spent
The times I’ve changed the way
That services are sent
It’s not that I don’t love you all
But I think it’s time I went.
After many years working in the Health Service I am now able to move to new pastures and this is my notice poem.
