Satin Folds by Bunny Clarke

Satin Folds by

When I was a child, I went to the fabric store with my mother. I loved going through the fabrics and looking at each fabric and pattern I saw. I loved the rich elegance of satin and silks. The wonderful brocaded patterns that seemed to dance. If I was lucky, sometimes that particular piece would be my next outfit. Trimmed in faux fur or velvet. :o)

Created in Fractal Explorer. Postwork in Photoshop for saturation, hue and contrasts.

very interesting. like the negative against the positive effects.

  • Thank you Janie. I love working with these types of designs. You never know what will happen until you get there. A tweak on way or the other produces drastically different results. :o)

I just love the whimsical ambience of this composition, the reds in contrast with the B&W. I couldn’t help but smile reading you reminiscences, as I did the same thing with my mother: these were such pleasurerable outings!

  • Yes, they were very pleasureable outings. Something many children won’t get to experience nowadays. Not as many people sew any more. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. You are the best. :o)

Oh, thankies Bunny. The little fabric stores that I remember from my youth don’t exist anymore. We have part of a commercial street in Montreal that has a plethora of fabric stores, like Ali-baba caverns, and where you can bargain. That’s the only treasure left, as most fabric stores now are big and part of chain stores.

The lady that worked at the fabric store was a friend of my mother, and she was so sweet and warm.

I still sew though, most of my clothes, as I can have exactly what I want. And it’s so satisfying to do and wear after. :)
