Asa child, I would look for the coolest places I could find to sit and draw or read a book. There was one park that had very old oaks and cottonwoods. There was an arched bridge, though it was much plainer than this one. I liked to sit on the side of the water and just enjoy the coolness and shade. The birds would often fly in and out around the area. Smaller animals would come in for water. I saw a fox family occasionally. Now, we don’t allow children that same freedom like I had in those many years ago. I know my children had considerably less. My grandchildren even less that them. The news media has done a good job of educating us of the monsters in the world around us. They made us fearful of others. In some ways, I am glad. In others, I am very sad we have to be so careful now. :o)

I too am sad for the children now. We loose so much, wonderful freedom and memories, trying to protect everyone from everything. I too wouldn’t allow children to do what I did when I was young. I’m very lucky to be alive…… I wouldn’t trade my memories of my stupidity for anything…….
    This is Beautiful Bunny!!!!

  • Thank you so much. And it is true, we narrowly missed being harmed. I’m glad you stopped by today. :o)

Just a note to let you know that I, too, survived adolescence. I’m also glad I wasn’t born ten years ago!

  • I hear you on the 10 years ago. I was always so independent, I drove my parents crazy. All the policemen knew me by the time I was four years old. I would wander looking for someone to play with with my dog along side me. It happened so often, they knew me by name and took me and my dog home. Shaking their heads. Our town was 10 miles long and about five miles wide. I usually made about five to six miles away. :o)

And it does look like a bridge!
When I was a kid, I used to go out in the woods by myself for hours and hours. Can you imagine letting a child do that now!!

  • I hear that. I did that all the time. I either had a dog or a cat with me all the time. :o)

This is brilliant Bunny I was able to get through that time of our lives unscayed

  • I think all of us of an age can relate and feel fortunate now. It’s a shame the younger ones will never know the freedoms we had. Thank you dear Malcolm. :o)

The one thing that I think children miss today is the freedom of being one on one with nature. We learned about it by spending all day chasing frogs and climbing trees. It’s just not the same with your parents around. It brings to mind that movie “Stand By Me”. Great work Bunny!

  • Yes. You have it. Thank you so much James. :o)

I grew up doing the same as you Bunny, but I was always with a book. Now when Im out with my camera and Im thinking of going somewhere that maybe I shouldn’t alone I carry a knife with me. A sad truth because as a child I would have never had a thought like that!

Beautiful work and always your thought provoking write!

  • I agree. I have found myself in areas alone and wondering what on earth I was thinking. I am not as strong and mean as I used to be. :o) Thank you Tina. :o)
