How do you cull your gallery?
I was going through and cleaning out some images that have not been showing well. As I was going through, I noticed some had more favorites than comments. I thought :os What is this? Hit and run favorites? Then, I thought… maybe this is a way for a person to mark an image for purchase later.
I also checked and saw some of them that have been featured. While they were featured, they still didn’t have many comments.
The last item I looked at was the number of views. I had one that had 16 comments, 4 favorites and over 100 views. O_0 Hmmm.
What do you do? I was curious how others handle their culling methods.
I should mention I’m fairly new to RB. I joined here in Apr 2009.

The ones that I have that the comments are fewer than the faves…for example, I had an image on another site with over 10,000 views and about 50 faves….turned out the image was stolen. When I have images like that, I do a search for them on the internet. On RB, there are things to help you prevent your images from that….it will not stop people from getting a screenshot and reposting your image as their own, but they will not get the high resolution files you have uploaded.
I think when I have images that have 100 comments and 3 faves….I may delete them from my gallery. I want my gallery full of good quality art…but if people comment and go to the trouble, why don’t they fave it as well? Sorry for my ramble.

I haven’t been here much longer, just a month more than you. Seems that some members keep every single image they upload and never cull their gallery. I recently noticed someone had 36 pages of images!
I usually go by the oldest works. If it’s been in my gallery longer than the rest, I look at the views and favorites and if it doesn’t seem like it’s getting many of either, I take it out. If it’s older, but gets more attention, I leave it in. Every once in awhile I’ll remove a somewhat newer piece that isn’t doing as well as the others; if it just seems that it’s not interesting viewers.

Hi Bunny.. I will generally “Hide” the images I don’t wish to show at the moment and switch them around that way. If I find after a few mths I didnt go back to “allow public view” or use it for a challenge then delete it goes.. Thats just my way of keeping my shown public pages down while still retaining options.. Have a great weekend too~ :)

I’ve never yet culled any of my galleries, Bunny. I restrict uploads instead till
each work has received a minimum number of views. After the three I uploaded
in the last 36 hours, it’s time to take another break.

Firstly, I go to the last page and work my way back to the latest front page.
Secondly, I look at the amount of comments, but also think of the groups that I belong to, and whether or not that image would be better left in case of a challenge.
Thirdly, I must decide how long it’s been on RB and whether it WILL sell or not. ( ha ha – yeah right )
I know it’s hard, but you have to cull them, otherwise it will get out of hand.
Best of luck my friend.

Hmm…geeee not sure if I should comment, as after 2 months here, I still haven’t been ‘featured’, haven’t had many comments and not many views either.
Hmmm, I rekon your ‘gutt’ feeling will tell you whether to ‘cull’ or not. , if you have reached a ‘cluttered’ stage, then, like housework, it needs to be done but can put some stuff ! Ha! Perhaps just ‘hide’ the piece/s UNDER the bed or behind the couch! Then bring back later?
I tend to avoid those that seem ‘too popular’ and focus on the ‘newbies’. One way I can navigate inside this vast RedBubble!
Good luck! Regards from Cobie :-)

Well, I’ve uploaded a hap of photos in my short three months or so on RB. I go through all of them periodically and delete those that I no longer feel are any good.
I do this because: 1. I think/feel my artwork is improving due to comments/criticisms left by others. 2. I view many other artists work and I know the photos that I delete from my portfolio won’t be missed, as they aren’t as good as I’d like to think they are.
All the best,
Bryan

I agree that having too many images in one’s portfolio at one time is not a good idea. Hiding some of them sounds a good option. I don’t have time to do very many so far, but go through and delete those with appear not to be popular, from time to time.
I think if one does a lot of favs, we need to delte the oldest of too, as one gets so many, there is so much awesome work about, and it’s so easy to get pages and pages, which I am sure nobody would think of checking out?!
