Taken with the iPhone camera, started the rework of the image in one of the iPhone apps. Completed the watercolor work in Photoshop with multiple layers of charcoal, pastel, blur, ink outlines, etc. Used the natural brushes to finish the blending for the effect I wanted.
Since I travel a lot, I don’t like to take my Canon with me. The camera bag is another piece of carry on and I cannot handle all of it. The iPhone has allowed me to experiment with the captures and create other pieces of art with it. Very fun tool.

It takes a couple of hours to do one like this. Sometimes a little more. Once you have a system down pat, it takes less time, even with a few changes for experimentation. :o)

I’ll bet you did… I like this…. what was the iPhone app… I don’t have the good fortuneof actually owning one but it may be a mac app like pixelmator which rocks…. I do see a lot of filters in use here but most importantly as far as the group goes, I do see the brushwork… Hope to have the new rules and guidelines in place by the end of the coming week. Stay tuned.

It is called PhotoForge. Designed for the iPhone. Like a slimmed down version of Photoshop and Irfenview. The natural brushes I picked up a couple of years ago from one of the Mac Photoshop sites. They had the Windows version too. I really like them. Don’t know if you can get them any more. The closest I’ve seen to them is the Paint X brushes.

I am guessing this might be from the same stable as FilerForge which does remind me a bit of Irfanview but also of 3d apps. As for the brushes… the problem is that there are too many out there. You could be dowloading for months and only find 5 brushes you really like,,,
I found with brushes – and I only really got into them around 4 years ago when the brush engine really took off- that you are better employed to try and figure out what the brush engine is all about. It is immensely powerful but nothing like Painter when it comes to retutning ntural type brush strokes. When you understand it you can make brushes of your own that are way better than anything you find on the net.
What it comes down to are enthusiasts and newcomers who really haven’t figured it out but ‘read a tutorial’ someplace on how to sample brushes, making them for a specific piece they do and then for some insane reason flood the internet with them making it harder for folf to find genuine good brushes.
There is a guy called David Nagel who makes excellent brushes for both Painter and Phoosohop. If you google him I daresay you can find a nice set or two..
He went on to work on projects like Twisted Brush – or Art Studio (not sure which) which really do some radical stuff in terms of picel bending…. but at the end of the day I don’t like them as much as ArtRage or Painter. Still they have real potential

That is who I was trying to think of… David Nagel. His are the natural brushes. Love them. They are the best of all the brushes I have ever used. ArtRage feels more natural sensory wise. So does Painter. That is the reason I like them. The brushes give you that feeling somewhat too.

did you get the paers for painter too? I use them quite a bit!!!Again it’s easy to make your own but these are very useful

Yes, I got the brushes for Painter too. I haven’t had the time to make my own, so these fit just right for me. I have some others too, but I cannot remember where I got them. Old Timer’s disease I think. ;o)

We or should I say I, are always our own worst or biggest critics. This was one I was pretty proud of since I accomplished the true watercolor effect that had eluded me for so long. Thank you again. :o)
