Lone Pier
Above the waterline the pier can give the vision that it has solid foundations…. so it is too that people with depression may put on a happy face to the world and “appear” ok…. but when the tide is out and they are alone the foundations show their withered state… beneath the surface the water is rough… this is like the racing thoughts and continual negative self speak of the depressed…. waiting for the day those foundations cease to exist and they are just a empty rotted shell.
The original pier is a photo I took while staying at New Farm Clinic being treated for depression… I think it is a great metaphor for how I was feeling at the time.
