see rock city!

When i was a child… every year we would take our vacation trip from mich. to miss to see relatives…on the way we would see these barns everywhere with ads on them…”see seven states from rock city” but my Dad would never take us to see it!!
So when we moved here that was one of the first places Bob and i saw on one of our road trips…i then wanted to take photos of all of the old barns and make a photo book of them,,,
sigh,,,someone allready did it! and…most of the barns have now disappeared as a past era. This one still remains in Rogersville, Al on hwy 72
not one of my greatest pics, will be stopping again to update it!

I live about 70 milies Rock City and it was one of the places that we took many short trips to when I was a child. I remember that the barns were everywhere and I think that they were the major advertising medium for Rock City

Once again you’ve taken us back to those by-gone days, always peeking our interest, who, what, and when! I love these shots.

Its such a shame that all these barns are dissapearing at such an astonishing rate. I have been trying to photograph all in my area as well. The new home subdivisions are taking over. Wrecking our past. I fear that my child will never have the chance to enjoy these as I have.

I also remember many more barns with the ads on them. I live about 30 minutes from that barn. It’s very hard to find old buildings with old ads still intact.
    Thank you for sharing!!

I simply adore this pic. I was born in Loudon, TN and we were surrounded by these old barns. Years ago, I went on a trek across the area to take pics of barns still standing while armed w/only a 110 camera, so for many, my shots aren’t really even good enough to be placed on the site. lol I think you did a fine job. FYI, there are actually 2 of these in the immediate area and another on the way thru to Knoxville. The other one in Rogersvilleis just off 11W before you enter the Rogersville City limits. You can email me and I can get you some better directions if you like. I use to live in Rogersville for 10.5yrs.
