VooDoo Back At Ya

I never feel like I’m talking about a painting when it comes to VooDoo Back At Ya, it’s more like I’m describing a force of nature. It was like that painting it as well. I had intended to paint a mask, and before I knew it, he started showing up the way he looks now. It was a very intuitive painting for me. I usually sketch them out first, but this was just about painting with passion. It’s painted with oil on a very large canvas. As far as it’s meaning, the witch doctor represents the healing arts, while the fish represents nourishment of the body. I have found though that he means many different things to many different people. For me, he’s that moment when the only healthy thing to do when you’ve been pushed way too far is to stand up, face your opposition and say, “VooDoo Back At Ya”.
