Artist's Description

Created in 1791 to fight against smuggling, footpath allows you to tour of Brittany.
It has two names: the coastal path or footpath.

For several centuries, Custom Agents made the rounds of Brittany’s coast, relentlessly trying to track smugglers from England. There were 1300 kilometers of coastline to monitor day and night to prevent any fraudulent landing.
When smuggling stopped, the trail was abandoned, it has since been restored to its original state. The Conservatoire du Littoral has been special protection and the footpath turned into a hiking trail (GR 34).
It begins at the Port of Saint-Nazaire, Loire-Atlantique and ended up at the gates of Mont-Saint-Michel, in northern Brittany.
