I wanted to capture the drama of a Karoo storm- the dramatic skies and the moody atmosphere. This is an oil painting created from a photograph taken on the road from Laingsberg to Ladismith, Karoo, South Africa. This area is currently experiencing a severe drought, though the area around Laingsberg was devastated by a flood in the 1980’s. The farmers in this area specialise in apricots and sheep farming mostly. Oil/canvas: 900 × 400mm
It’s all there, you captured all the elements here Viv. Great to see you again. Hope you’re doing well. Did you know that you were featured? Follow this link to see.

Thank you- beauty is in the eye of the beholder!?
very beautiful atmosphere!love the tones you used!
Thank you so much – it is difficult to get atmosphere into a photograph – it is so much better in real life.
Viv your work is phenomenal, you win hands down against so many who try to encapsulate this magnificent countryside! So very well done :-)
You are too kind! I am so touched by your comment and don’t really feel I deserve it!
