Hopeful boy

Hopeful boy

This is a charcoal drawing of a young guy. I don’t think he was even aware that he looked like he was praying. He was so unselfconscious and innocent- I tried to capture that feeling.

Knowing that he wasnt praying and wasnt aware he looked like he was makes this piece much stronger. I quite like it.
Maybe your title should reflect that..
    Nice work!

  • Viv King replied

hi Joseph. Thanks for the suggestion- yes, you have made a good point here. I will think about changing the title, maybe to “Hopeful boy”- what do you think? I would value your opinion.

A beautiful sketch. I love how you’ve concentrated the stronger tones around his head and hands, the focus of the image, and it softens as you move down the body. Very nice.

    Congratulations.
Rather pensive, and I keep looking at the the way you’ve treated the hair.

  • Viv King replied

Hi DamcD. Thank you so much. I just used a very hard compressed charcoal to get a really thick black effect.
