"Content," Navajo girl with her goat. by

A 16×18 acrylic, this painting captures for me the essence of contentment. Grounded by love, culture and family tradition, this little girl embodies all that lends depth and richness to our lives. Safe, secure and content in the possession of these simple, yet quintessential blessings, she is free to give love to others as freely as she has received. In this painting, who is content? Simple. The answer is evident. Both the one who gives as well as the one who receives unconditional love.

I see contentment in both expressions, Janine. The little girl’s grasp is nurturing and a wonderful human example.

  • Thank you, David!!!! That was my thought exactly!!! So glad you caught it from the painting!!!

A break from your usual subject matter – and wonderfully done! I love the details of the beads and the earrings. You captured the girl’s expression perfectly and I am invited to look behind my shoulder at the object of her gaze.

  • Oh, Chad…It’s SO great to see you here! And thank you! I was rather uneasy about the jewelry…I find that difficult to paint…so I’m thrilled that you found it convincing! I thoroughly enjoyed this change of pace! Thank you for all your encouragement!

Superb double portrait here, Janine. Lovely colours and composition. the hair and fur, are exceptionally well painted. I’m rubbish at portraits – this is excellent! I’d say this was your forte. They are so cute!

  • Hello, Colin! Thank you so very, very much! You have no idea how much your words buoy and encourage me! You are a spectacular artist, and if my painting in anyway meets with your approval, I feel I can plod on! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Almost religious ..:-) A happy posting

  • Yes…the words convey my own childhood…but the painting grew out of a year spent living and teaching in the Sedona, Arizona area…And that was simply a magical time in my life! Thank you so much!
