I created this picture many years ago with pencil and acrylic paint on paper. Years later I burned it because I thought it was too dark. Then, years later again, I gave birth to a stillborn son. In retrospect I decided to resurrect the picture from memory and re-created it on my computer. I thought it was very strange that I had painted the original painting 10 years before my baby was born still. The original was probably better- it was scarier and uglier and the woman’s body wasn’t correct- but it had a feel to it that I’m not sure if I recaptured. But the idea is the same. Originally her belly represented creativity, now it represents that and more.
