nearly married twice
This image was shot using a
mamiya 220 camera (6X6 medium format) and ILford black and white 120 roll film.
As a babe in Gaia’s cold cradle she lay
A child of sand and sky
Peace washes clean her innocent soul
Beauty to bring tears to the eye
Her bed of the earth, rough not to her
On the wind her soul doth fly
Never will I forget the image of her
Never even will I try

so beautiful .. i just love this series so much
meh
i LOVE all of your series LOL
the ground in this is amazing .. the textures coming through .. the hard cracked ground .. the softness and sensuality of the woman .. she’s basking there .. just so beautiful ..
you’re ace !!

Wonderful contrast between the earth and your model, your B&W tones are perfect….........well done.
JenniferB, 2 months ago
What a seriously stunning shot aglaia! Awesome perspective and contrasts between the textures of the soft, smooth flesh and rugged, weathered earth.
psst… I assume this was at a Private beach and not a cut and paste job? lolxox

Where do you find THIS kind of flotsam…..I could only scavenge for washed ashore mussels twixt Altona and PT Cook.
Brilliant image Aglia!xx

So I guess the engagement is off? Wonderful contrasts. How do you get the model to look so serene while she’s lying on such an uncomfortable looking surface?

Thanks my dear!
actually the earth was quite soft to touch that i too had to take my shoes off so i could feel a part of the experience a little better!
psst… I assume this was at a Private beach and not a cut and paste job? lol
this was shot on film and there was only one intruder and he was not game to come closer, thank goodness LOL!
i promise there will be some cut and paste jobs in the future!
much love to you! xox ;-)

you know how i get when i see that bold type! LOL

I think the thing that just makes this image is the dichotomy it holds. The model’s white porcelain unmarked unblemished beauty on the rough, craggy, ugly background of the mud. You are just a genius!
aglaia b in reply to raoultiger’s comment, 2 months ago
it was not all that rough actually and it was a little like quick sand, your foot made a deep print as it came in contact with it!
looks can be deceiving hey, the film and medium format really brings out the true detail of the earth!
thanks raoul ;-)
aglaia b in reply to deliriousgirl’s comment, 2 months ago
yes it is quite a contrast between her skin/beauty and the earth.
i love them both! ;-) xox

Really striking angle and contrast
mychaelalchemy, 2 months ago
it looks like a dried lake or pond bed, and yes I can see tire marks where she lay. for most photographers who do model work we like to have this juxtaposition of softness and beauty against harsher surroundings and environs. the incongruity of it is what is striking and you have well accomplished it here…another stand out photo!
April Mansilla, 2 months ago
oh you can feel the ache of her being…beautiful emotional work!

the softness and the whiteness of the body are attractive, // opposition with the cracks of the ground, also reinforced by the abandoned pose of the model…

I Nearly Married Twice
As I lay here thinking of you
I can see all my dreams forsaken,
What folly and lust did I reveal?
The journey has been long,
And I still think of you.
The deed was done and my heart still knows
That I Nearly Married Twice….And I Still Love You.

Aglaia, it looks to me like Venus resting after her birth as a fully formed woman. Her head facing toward the viewer reminds me of birth where the viewer becomes the midwife ready to receive all that is facing them. The contrasts in tone and also smooth and rough; skin and cracked earth give the image strength.

Nice work. Interesting title.

This is a very powerful image. The high contrast landscape is so powerful against the soft almost featureless skin. Wow.

I had to have a look at it upside down. Its fkn savage.
I was thinking of getting a 35mm SLR. Instead of your nine grand sort of adequate digital job or the heap of shit one I have now I could have box with a load of silver helide in it do an excellent job for about a hundred yokes, plus some wierd arcane ritual they do over it in a shop in town for about a tenner.
And isn’t HDR a load of shit too?
Anyway I love this photo, there’s a lot in it.
aglaia b in reply to theyellowfury’s comment, about 1 month ago
And isn’t HDR a load of shit too?
this has given me a most wonderful little giggle! thank you yellowfury
and your box with a load of Ag halide sounds so magical to me. i think that would be 100 yokes very well spent. the ritual for only a tenner sounds like music to my ears! ;-) xox
