Snail Flower

Featured in: Enchanted Flowers 02/Feb/2013

This flower is also know as the Corkscrew flower. The flower is purple in the middle when marture and white at the out side in the shape of a snail or corkscrew. When the flowers are young they are green and a soft white. The white is on the same flower. The flowers feel a bit like rubber. When the flowers dye they drop off and are a brown/yellow colour. This plant grows on a vine.

Most unusual snail I’ve ever not seen. Are the white things to the right part of that flower which has faded or are they from another flower?

  • Hi Fred, this is another capture I took some time ago.

Wonderfully captured Joy!! What a unusual flower it is ~ totally unknown to me!! I am wondering if it is a variety of orchid?

  • Thanks Sharon, I only know of one place which this is growing. Its climbing over a fence.
