Not sure if Hydra-Matic is the name of this model or just telling the tranny. The only badging I saw on this car was Oldsmobile and HYDRA-MATIC. I don’t even know the model year, but I’m thinking late 40s to early 50s. Found it on a drive about around San Jose, California. I have driven by this car before but this is the first time I stopped to shoot it.

This car is remarkably complete, with just a few dents and dings in the back and a bit (okay, maybe a lot) of surface rust. The chrome is mostly complete and just needs a little rubbing to bring it back. The interior is toast, the paint is shot but this car would make a great restoration project. Hmmm.

If you can look past the faults, this is still a beautiful example of American rolling steel, and it’s a shame to see it just sitting there in the weeds.

I shot way too many pics of this car to put them all in here, but I loved it. This one and a shot of the front end (see the previous shot, Oldsmobile HYDRA-MATIC) are my faves.

bob wall, btwgf, oldsmobile, hydra matic, olds

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.
