Mono Lake Vista

Artist's Description

My first view of Mono Lake coming over the hill on Highway 395 after crossing the Sonora Pass. This was the main reason I headed in this direction on my annual birthday driveabout. Was a little disappointed with the tufas (mineral formations created when the lake was deeper). The part of the lake where I really wanted go requires 4-wheel drive to get there and I drove my van instead of my Jeep because my back was bothering me. Next time, I drive my jeep.

But this one shot makes it worthwhile to me. The sky just kicks butt in this shot. And even with my 18 – 105 zoom set at 18mm, I couldn’t quite capture the whole lake from a few miles away. And yes, that little road waaaayyyy the hell down there is Hwy 395 after it winds down off the mountain to lake level.
