…and not a Golden Spike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_spike) in sight. Oh well.

Roaming around the Niles Canyon Railway maintenance facility in Sunol, California, I found this bucket of rusty old railway spikes spilled on the ground. Thought about digging through them to look for a golden spike but figured it would probably be a waste of time.

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.

Great capture and interesting find Bob. (you love those old railway yards)
My house was built in 1869 and every time I put in a new plant I come across square nails like these. I also find bones, broken crockery and glass.
