Went back out to the Niles Canyon Railway’s maintenance yard for another photo session. Last time I was there, I didn’t like most of the shots I got, so I decided to try again. I think I got a few good ones this time, including this shot.

I love riding all trains, but especially those pulled by steam locos. Just something way cool about the sights, sounds and even the smells of these trains chuffing along a scenic railway, and I hope to ride this one when it’s finished.

American Locomotive Company built this steam locomotive in 1927. It is currently undergoing a thorough restoration.

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.
