Went to Genji, a Japanese teppan style restaurant, in San Jose. This is where they cook the food right in front of you. Our chef made this “volcano” out of an onion and some kind of flammable liquor (sake?).

While everybody else was eating the food that the chef was serving up, I was busy taking pictures and having a great time at it.

WOOHOO!!! This image is on the JPG Magazine webite homepage in the Grilled to Perfection challenge on Father’s Day.

WOHOO again. This image made the JPG News Blog on June 21.

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.

Congratulations! Maybe the word “scorched” is appropriate! An onion volcano is a clever trick! Fun! What a fabulous capture! And I’m sure it was delicious too!

Very cool capture! So clear and the flames are awesome!

  • Thanks Dion. I got a few shots of it, but this one is my fave. Mostly because of the flames.
