Sun and shade, flares and light spectrum, angles and curves. A little bit of everything in this shot at the federal building in San Jose. Shot before the government got all paranoid. Now, when you take pictures near this building, security guards come out and try to intimidate you into leaving. Doesn’t work with me. It’s a public building in the middle of downtown. Get over it dudes. I’m a photographer, not a terrorist.

This sunshade covers the patio between two buildings. And it looks pretty cool too.

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.

Ah… an artist who sees the beauty in what we all just look past. Outstanding!

  • Thanks a lot, but I really don’t think of myself as an artist. This was still early in my “digital” days, and my “assignment” (from an on-line bud who is an English professor) was “Signs”. She wanted me to take pics of signs and write a story using the pics (still haven’t done that). So, I was wandering around downtown San Jose shooting up signs when I saw this, and since I love shooting the small details that make something unique, shot it.

I “photoshopped” it a little bit to bring out the sun-flares and spectrum a bit more, and to increase the shadows under the awning. This is a cover over an outdoor patio.
