We all know what WYSIWYG means, right? What You See Is What You Get. But that ain’t necessarily so. Especially when the I stands for ISN’T.

This looks like a hold deep in the bowels of an old sailing ship, and I can understand if you agreed. Aged wooden boards curving to the shape of the hull, boards running flat along the keel, low overhead.

But it ISN’T. It’s the underside of the eave of a building shot in portrait format, then turned 90 degrees clockwise. Shot at the pump house at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay Wildlife Refuge in Newark, California.

One of my favorite ways of getting people to look at an image differently.

Tell the truth now. How many of you are cocking your head to the right trying to see this pic as I shot it?

I’ll shoot anything that catches my eye, but I love it when somebody says “I never looked at it that way before” or even just a little “ooooh”. If I can make you stop and say “hmm”, that’s the best. I normally use minimal processing; a little bump in color and/or contrast, maybe a little cropping. But sometimes I just can’t resist the urge to play with an image.

Great capture Bob. Had to read the description to see what it was. Lol

  • Thanks Myra. I want people to read the descriptions. That’s why I put ’em there. ;)
