Taken on a recent walk around the foreshores of Sydney Harbour.

I know in some parts of the Northern Hemisphere these flowers can sell for a small fortune and people love them. They are well loved here in Australia as well but they grow everywhere so no point in trying to sell them here. We had many of them growing in our backyard when I was growing up. This one was growing alongside a footpath near the Sydney Harbour shores.

The following info is taken from:

Strelitzia (pronounced /strɛˈlɪtsi.ə/) is a genus of five species of perennial plants, native to South Africa. The genus is named after the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, birthplace of Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom. A common name of the genus is bird of paradise flower, because of a supposed resemblance of its flowers to the bird of paradise. In South Africa it is commonly known as a crane flower.
