The Sydney Festival kicked off with a bang the weekend before last. It happens every January and the opening night is a feast for the eyes and ears.
Many streets in the Sydney CBD were closed to traffic and there were bands, light shows on buildings, acrobats, and DJ’s scattered throughout the CBD and Hyde Park.
It was a typical balmy summer evening for Sydney and it was fantastic to be able to walk down the streets without worrying about cars.
We went from one venue to the next, checking out the sights and sounds. By the end of the night we were so tired and were walking back down through Martin Place when we heard some ENORMOUS sounds coming from the main stage. We walked down to the stage then stopped and listened to an awesome band that had come all the way to Sydney for the opening night of the Sydney Festival from sunny California. The band is called Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and they are simply fantastic. If you’re lucky enough to live in California then go see them, you won’t be disappointed.
There were many great Aussie acts as well, far too many awesome acts to list. Suffice to say I’ll be uploading some more photos from the night during the week.
