Profile
Born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland I initially studied Craft and Design at Art School in Aberdeen. I studied Ceramics producing abstract sculptural forms inspired by natural shapes and processess and used conventional film photography to record forms and textures which interested me, a library of sorts to inspire and record. The art and craft world however is difficult to make much of a living from and “real life” caught up with…(or should I really say I wasn’t very good!... we’ll stick to the former for now). I went back to photography about 5 years ago now and bought a Canon film SLR but again self discipline in recording speed, aperture etc and not being able to see the finished picture led to many un-developed rolls of film lying around the house, there’s still a good few! Mt first digital camera was the Fuji Finepix 7000 and I learnt a hell of a lot from it…depth of field, composition, speed etc and at the moment I,m using a Canon D40, a 5D would be my next choice. Lenses I use include the Canon 75-300mm and a great Tamron 11-18mm and my favourite of the moment a 2nd hand Canon 100mm. Primary inspiration comes from the Highland countryside, it,s grand landscapes and it’s fine details . Lately I,ve been having some thoughts of recording more than just the nature of where I live but capturing some of the people and industry that this area has to offer…an archive of a small place at a given time, from one persons point of view. I,m an amateur but would love to go pro
