NEWS UPDATE: Sign removed and campaign to save and restore it underway now. Support this campaign thorugh their website here. (And of course any profits from the sale of this image will also be donated for this purpose of restoring and maintaining this iconic sign as well.)

Original description content:

My love of old neons seems to be shared by others, so another one from Oregon for this growing collection. Can’t fathom why so many people pose for photographs below this one though!

But on a more serious note, for a while panic set in around Portland when this classic appeared to be at risk too, but all is well and it will remain. Read more.

The sign originally had the words ‘CHOP SUEY’ where the ‘EST. 1928’ text is now. And at the bottom it once said ‘COCKTAILS’ where the word ‘BUILDING’ is showing. The refurbishment occurred because it had deteriorated and rusted to the point of potential danger. (So thanks to this facelift the ‘Old & Rusty’ group sadly misses out on a former rusty and crusty gem.)
