There's something about...

This was shot in an amazing house, it was caught in a time capsule….the property was recently sold and the furniture sold off too, this shoot is all that remains. I wanted to look back, not through the rose coloured glasses we usually gaze back with, but to look at the tension that lies just below the surface. The 50’s and early 60’s have this all to perfect image, surface image that is…

The underlying theme is incredible, however, what’s more incredible is the actual execution of the image… what an amazing space complete with high end period furniture. The lighting is so exquisite and there are so many focal points for the eye to be drawn into. Exceptional image to say the least! Styling and lighting are sheer perfection. Masterpiece in my book!

The tension is so subtle yet that is what makes it so strong. The hand on the shoulder while he is looking away is the key to capturing the essence of the image. At first I thought this may have been a father giving his daughter’s boyfriend ‘the talk’ – but the ‘Post magazine throws me a little, I get the feeling there is something a little more sinister is unfolding. The art direction, colour palette and lighting just blow my mind. Truly inspiring art.

Fabulous light and colour /tones!...I was a child of the sixties and we were seen and not heard ..It was a period of innocence …of simplicity ..and you are right ..nothing was ever openly discussed like today ..there was no information highway (the internet ) Your parents were the respected leaders in society ..you did as you were told and didnt even think of challenging their ideas .It was a slower time when everyone had a friendship with their neighbours and the world was a much smaller place . I think society today is much healthier and children and young adults expect more ..to achieve more …to live more for themselves rather than for someone else’s expectations …..apart from that this is a great piece of history . the cross on the wall is very symbolic ….but seems a contradiction to the scene …

This series of images in this incredible house is full of turbulence and ill-at-ease family members. Has such relevent overtones in terms of todays families and their problems. Not much has changed, really.
