From my first roll of film through a Mamiya TLR.

As found locally. I thought he would reproduce well on black and white so took a couple of shots; this is the second. After being spoilt by a series of Rollei TLRs the lack of an automatic parallax correcting screen on the Mamiya used for this image means careful framing adjustment is required at close range.

Photographed with a Mamiya C220 Professional medium format twin lens reflex on ILFORD Pan F Plus (ISO 50) roll film. The bellows fitted to the Mamiya enable you to focus at very close range. The Mamiya C series are one of very few TLR types capable of accepting interchangeable lenses. The C220 was fitted with a Mamiya Sekor 80mm f/2.8 taking lens for this image. As I recall the camera was mounted on a tripod. Home developed in ILFORD ID-11 developer.

Brett, Wow he looks great from this angle as well. James

  • Thanks so much James. It’s a good thing I’m addicted to Rolleis because looking at some of the shots I’ve done with the Mamiya, it is a system I could see really see myself getting into.

Nice shot, Brett. There’s something very lifelike about this. Obviously the detail, but I think it’s the lighting. Very nice.

  • Thanks so much Geoff for the fab comment and favourite. Tasmania often has some great light but it was particularly kind to me that afternoon and I guess it shows.
