Artist's Description

Hobart’s Tasmania Farm Gate Market is a wonderful source of fresh local produce. There are few more enjoyable ways to source your fresh fruit and vegetables than a Sunday morning outing to the market. It’s small enough to be friendly and large enough to have most things you might seek.

Chris the potato seller has my favourite stall. Instead of plastic tubs, the produce, freshly harvested potatoes, garlic, onions, carrots, parsnips, and much more, is displayed in old-fashioned wicker baskets lined with newspaper. The stall is backed by coloured cloths, and he even wears an old-style flat cap and period apron. If there was an award for the best-presented stall at the market, he’d be a shoo-in.

This image was captured in early summer 2011/2012 during one of our regular Sunday morning visits. It was taken with my 1955 Rolleiflex 2.8C twin lens reflex. My example is fitted with Schneider’s 80 millimetre f/2.8 Xenotar taking lens, a wonderfully sharp piece of glass. The scene was recorded on Fujicolor Reala 100 colour negative film.

The abundant detail in this medium format image is best previewed in the LARGE size.
