During the late 19th Century the appearance of a pair of Russian warships in the Derwent prompted the construction of gun enplacements either side of the river near Hobart. This eight inch Armstrong cannon is one of the original armaments installed on the eastern shore of the River Derwent at Kangaroo Bluff. In the distance Tasmania’s state capital Hobart is situated in the shadows of Mount Wellington. More information here
