One More Minute

A few different events within the past few months have inspired this work, as well as the Columbine shootings (which I refer to in lines 6 & 7). Written on April 20th, 2008 in dedication to those whose lives were taken by the shooters. My prayers and heart goes out to the families involved.

One More Minute belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Dearly Departed, Living Christianity and Religious Art & Photography

We all ask for it, as if it’s guaranteed.
We all take it for granted, telling parents we’ll need one more minute before doing a chore.
We all act like it will be there- God forbid we have to do a task as soon as possible.
It’s so easy, it’s so normal.
So easy to expect, so normal to expect.
I bet their last words were, “One more minute, please!” before the guns fired.
He wanted one more minute with his wife and children, but didn’t get it.
Thinking it’ll be there, one more minute, we don’t tell others how we feel.
Just one more minute, I’ll be okay.
Keep it up, there won’t be any left.
It’s a lesson that’s never new, nor never old.
Always preached, never practiced.
We all want one more minute, asking for more before it’s gone.
God decides when we’ll get one more minute.
He knows when He’ll give it and when He won’t.
The choice is yours- will you trust Him or ask for borrowed time?
