The Birth of Psyche
(Oil on canvas ~ 2.5 feet square.)
I have always felt that Aphrodite is Lakshmi, one and the same.
Goddess Lakshmi is the loving nurturer who brings us love and refinement and all good things that we need to survive and grow and enjoy the world we live in…and the spiritual side of life too, she delivers the results of our spiritual practices.
If we are starving it is She who brings to us a small bowl of rice..or even a single grain…anything we are lucky enough to receive is from her. All glory and thanks to Her! If we are bereft and desolate, it is Her that brings us a moments gratitude for anything good we can feel or find….She loves our gratitude and praise, yet, maybe, even our gratitude and praise of Her is delivered by her giving, in perfect time… such is the mystery of Her way.
Here she is giving one very great gift, the birth of Psyche!
What is “Psyche”?
Psychoanalysts and psychotherapists and psychiatrists are all dealing with “her” (the psyche) throughout their work…but do they all know what “psyche” is?
Psyche is not “mind”, so do the drug-toting professionals of mental health deserve to use her in their professional titles? The soul cannot speak of itself, not be interrogated…so do psychoanalysts deserve her name? And if the mind and mouth are encouraged to talk about feelings and problems and pain… can the Psyche really be said to be advocating herself in the work of “psychotherapists”? If we translate the word “Psycho” as used to describe dangerous persons, then I think maybe “Psyche” may feel wholly misrepresented.
There is clearly a modern misunderstanding and misuse of the word ‘psyche’.
I think a single individual spark of the overall universal creative intelligence…that which is a spark from “the core phenomena of all perfect unfoldment of life, unmanifest, in birth, and fully manifest” deserves to use the name “Psyche” for it’s true meaning is “individual Soul”. So maybe the Creator or “God” could be called “Super-psyche”? ~ Supersoul.
Perhaps a redefining of the need of psychotherapeutic patients may be needed. I am sure there are plenty of therapists who can guide a person to be in charge of their own life…but I can guess that many more of THAT kind are needed… I guess they would be “Guru-psychotherapists”.
The birth of Psyche, maybe it is a start to the recognition of the ‘silent one’..or biggest “Self”. The observer. And so, beginning of a conscious following of a truly spiritual path.
Thank you to my friends who supported and encouraged me to finish this project.
Thank you very much
Jaymasee at deviantart for her photographic help. Without you this project would have been impossible.
Thank you also to Fiona Jones a “redbubble artist” who offered the digital artwork to me for use in my oil painting work.
