As Monet reached the latter part f his life, and especially as his eyesight weakened, he allowed himself to explore light and colour in a very free way, allowing himself to merge patterns of light-dapples and prismatic effects of colour and light…in a wonderful free abstract way…. His late, enormous water lily paintings seemed to be excuses for the celebration of light and colour…. Eventually the presence of the water lilies on the surface of the water giving him the “permission” back then to display such enourmous abstract paintings.
Monet and his water lily paintings are certainly the source of inspiration for these works… and this is hopefully the first of several.
