Fremington is a village and civil parish in North Devon three miles (5 km) west of Barnstaple. It was formerly a borough that sent members to Parliament in the reign of Edward III. The parish itself includes the neighbouring villages of Bickington and Yelland, the latter only asserting its identity as separate entity during the 1980s. Fremington hundreds was one of the 32 historical districts of the county of Devon. Geographically, the centre of the village is approximately a mile (2 km) south of its Quay, the latter a historic wharf situated on the southern bank of the River Taw. Fremington is home to Little Bridge House, a children’s hospice run by Children’s Hospice South West.
Gorgeous work Simon. Love the strong brush marks and the atmosphere you have created
Angie, thank you very much! This is so unusual for me, it is oil sketching really, and for me it is refreshing to not do any detail at all, apart from the main shapes…
John thank you thats nice to read, I am really delighted with it, Its the first serious oil work Ive done outdoors, … This has no detail virtually, at all, so I was delighted at the effect when I stand back and look at it…
I’m very grateful Ivana, thank you, this is the first outdoor piece of work I have done in over ten years, thanks very much for your encouragement!

very pretty :) xxx
Thank you Denise, It’s my first outdoor painting ever… as in going out and being visible with an easel and paint…I’m the recluse type so having any kind of audience is more than bazarre for me….humbling too.
I played in those Lim ekilns as a boy! A magical and secluded place…very magical when the tide comes right in like on this day in the picture…. thank you Charmiene!
Stunning – and you are right, it is so magical and enchanting. xx
Thank you Anna, THESE are the oils that FIRE me…I have only done two outdoors ever….they are frightening, primeval, fiery and frenitic to do….. I am so self conscious when doing them…its like lightening striking! The result is a painting…. This is what I like to do….it strips all my “style” to nothing in a kind of healthy outdoor exposed terror! Thank you Anna, to say I am pleased you use the word “stunning” for this has great meaning for me….
painting this, with shifting light conditions, I had no time to paint detail….also painting next to a public footpath as a publicly self conscious person, the courage needed makes for very frenetic loose work…. thank you Cindy!
