This was written on an overnight bus trip…....
I’m using your name /
to pin my breath down /
to the window pane of /
the night-time Greyhound /
The road slips away /
with flashes of light /
the moon paints the darkness /
with splashes of white /
And I’m coming home /
so I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So there’s no need for this ache ha? /
I’m coming home /
so I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So this distance will not break us
The radio coughs out /
it’s favourite song /
the old man beside me /
is singing along /
They’re all the wrong words /
And none of them rhyme /
but he’s off with a girl /
from a different time /
And I’m coming home /
so I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So there’s no need for this ache ha? /
I’m coming home /
so I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So this distance will not break us /
The roar of the engine /
keeps the people from sleep /
but I’ve found the silence and /
I’m sinking in deep /
I think of the future /
I think of the past /
That you are a present /
and I want you to last
So I’m coming home /
and I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So there’s no need for this ache ha? /
I’m coming home /
so I’ll be there when you wake up /
I’m coming home /
So this distance will not break us

These lyrics are very emotive, check out if you haven’t allready. A canadian singer songwriter called City and Color and his track ” Coming home ” equally powerful..

I’m a writer who has a lot of musician friends and we often debate (argue) about the importance of lyrics vs music in the production of a song. Of course I always go for the lyrics side of things as being more important- so many beautiful songs can be let down by shoddy lyrics! I thought your’s were lovely and demonstrated such a great comand of language…I’d love to hear the music to get the whole package!

Thanks Alice and Craig. Craig: this song is being recorded with an orchestra – the arrangement is hot, so looking forward to getting it down. Album will be finished in June – don’t worry you’ll know about it – I have plans to get our RB family involved….
