A little observation I made a long time still hasn’t sunk in. When painting reflections on wet surfaces they should be perpendicular – in a vertical line – to the figure or object being reflected.
I found that I tended to make them slant to the left so often and realised it was because I am right-handed and my viewpoint is from the left. I’m still doing it, as can be seen in Summer at Tynemouth. You’d think I’d have learned by now to stand back during rather than after painting.
Where’s my T-square?

Painting while you are drinking beer tends to produce this result also.
Tom Godfrey
even more beer and you end up with horizontals and no verticals at all. :)
