IAN'S GRANDSON JAMIE

IAN'S GRANDSON JAMIE

A portrait for a friend of his delightful grandson Jamie.

In virtually every face I paint I always find some beautiful features – often only discovered because one has to make such close observations – and that’s regardless of age or gender.

Watercolour, pastel and coloured pencils on Arches hot pressed paper.

IAN'S GRANDSON JAMIE belongs to the following groups:

1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture , 60 and Beyond, All About Your Best Work, Contemporary Pastel Painters (2 per day) and Realist Traditional Art

Brilliant Brian, excellent portrait. Love the attention you gave to the highlights, particularly in the hair. Masterfully done.

  • Brian Towers replied

It’s those highlights, especially the twinkles in the eyes, which are the payoff – the most enjoyable parts of painting. Along with that I love reflected light, although there isn’t much in this picture. Thanks Jim.

I’m glad too that hand-created artwork still has its place alongside photography and digital work – otherwise I’d be out of a most pleasurable hobby. Most kind of you StarKatz.

  • Lynda Robinson

    Lynda Robinson

This is really fantastic Brian. The hair is exceptional!!! I also like the way you have faded that bottom edge into the background. I would like to stand behind you and watch you work your magic with the mixed media, and to know which bits you do in watercolour and which in pastel/pencil. Perfection!!!

  • Brian Towers replied

Ah, the lovely Lynda, always there to charm and old geezer. You echo my wish – to stand behind you and watch you produce those fantastic works of art. Tell you what, let’s stand behind each other….although a slight problem does occure to me.

If it helps a bit, then watercolour is just for the first layout tones and perhaps a few highlights.

    Thanks pin-up girl.

    Tom Godfrey

Thanks Brian. You are not supposed to pay me an even bigger compliment when I call you a genius :), but then I guess that sort of self-deflecting spirit is testamony to your enlightened genius (I’ve unwittingly set up a few puns for you to pounce on no doubt :)
