Millennium Doom

Millennium Doom

See Satellite Town to read of my passion for space art.

I could have called this White Elephant becasue it became an expensive embarassment to the Government before and after it’s building in London.

As it looks a bit like a flying saucer, and, as a bit of fun, I thought I’d portray it having a fitting end. On the other hand perhaps the space ship is looking for a mate. there is still hope the dome will pay it’s way some day. Actuall it did in one of my books.

I have to admit that most of my space scenes have a bit of fun in them.

The original picture is in acrylics and 20” x 16”.

Of your space paintings, this has always been one of my favourites. I’ve been in the Millennium Dome, but it must have been just before your ship arrived. If you look carefully at one of those beams I am sure you will eventually see Mr Bean arriving, like he does in the credits of the TV show :-) A marvellous painting – as usual.

I’d have been cheating David, it’s 100% a painting – I’m not skilled enough to use computers like that.

I have seen Brian’s actual paintings and can confirm that this is indeed all done with paints. It is down to Brian’s skill with a brush that his paintings look so photographic.

I really do love the B-Movie feel to your work Brian. Its meant as a compliment. I think its great. It has a real 50’s feel.

Brilliant. At least all that money wasn’t completey wasted as you have your painting. The government are truly fools.

Many thanks for your kind comment.

    Totally my bag.

  • Brian Towers replied

Glad you like it my friend. I very much like your work and am pleased to see you are getting back to hand-drawing even though it’s hard to tell the difference between that and such impressive digital stuff these days. One or two of us send limericks to RB and I reckon you’d be the ideal person to run a group. Incidently, what are you furious about….and are you really yellow?

Love this painting, its amazing how much detail youve put into this. I’m still waiting for the mothership to arrive lol. Happy new year Mr Towers, I salute you!!

  • Brian Towers replied

Thank you Dave and Happy New Year to you too. I return your salute as I’m so impressed with your artwork and look forward to seeing more.

I’m kind of a fan of domes, but I do think they need to fit into their environment with unobtrusive grace. You write sci-fi?

  • Brian Towers replied

There’s that sense of humour again – gets me into trouble at times. Yes, I indulged myself a few years ago by writing 3 sci-fi books (never bothered to try getting them publised but greatly enjoyed the exercise). One serious the other two humorous.

Our Dome is still a white elephant and unused as far as I know.

Too bad about the dome, they can be such useful structures. I used to be quite a fan of sci-fi books, Heinlein being my favorite (Stranger in a Strange Land). I’ve written a couple of fantasy novellas myself and am working on a third. No takers in the publishing department, but maybe someday.

  • Brian Towers replied

I haven’t read your favourite but must seek it out. I’d be very interested in reading your stories too. So many people are writing these days that most publishers are getting around 30,000 submissions a year but only publishing a handful – little chance for me there, but I’d encourage you to keep plugging away.

Great image . . . On the Sci-fi front, why don’t you give us some excepts here . . . I for one would love to read them . . . Re RAH (Robert A Heinlein) to me the greatest writer of what he called ‘Speculative Fiction’ ever. If not the book Les recommended then my ‘all-time’ fav book, ‘Time enough for love’ . . . Well worth the read . . .
