You are really good at accurately capturing facial expressions Brian.

  • Brian Towers replied

I must say that kids make it a lot easier with apple cheeks and innocence. Thanks Dave.

Such beautiful eyes these little ones have. There’s a real sparkle in them. Don’t know how you get that cleanness of line with pastel….I always seem to get really messy…love working with pastels though. Brilliant work as usual, Brian….love it :-)

  • Brian Towers replied

I can always rely on you to boost an ego Chris. Thank you.

I agree with Chris…I admire the beautiful clean soft look you have achieved with pastels. Lovely portrait of two very sweet young ladies.

  • Brian Towers replied

Thanks Estelle. Never the one to follow the ‘rules’ I must confess to using whatever works, and that includes to little touch of paint here and there.

Portraiture is so difficult. You’ve given life to these young faces on pastel, Brian.
You will know from the response from the relatives _ I’m sure a delighted one!

  • Brian Towers replied

Hi Colin. You’re right about portraits being the most difficult of subjects – for me anyway. Fortunately in this case George (up there with his comment) was delighted with his grandchildren’s picture.

They wouldn’t be George Sanderson’s granddaughters would they? Lovely pastel work Brian.

  • Brian Towers replied

Indeed they are Lynda. George and I are members of an art club, along with a lot of other old timers. We spend more time chatting and chuckling than painting so it’s as much a scocial club as anything. Most of my ‘portraits’ these days are done as caricatures (portoons) and George has requested one as a present.

I’m presuming with your talent you are a professional portrait painter. May I ask how business is going and how busy you are?
