  • Brian Towers replied

Most kind of you Hilary, thank you. I’ve just been taking a quick look through your portfolio – with about 700 oustanding pictures – and must take more time to go through them. You say you paint so I’d love to see some of your work.

Marvelous work Brian. You obviously have an unfair amount of talent and need to distribute some of this abundance to those of us less fortunate.

  • Brian Towers replied

Most kind of you David. I’ve been practising for 74 years and still have a lot to learn – so I’d better stick around.

Excellent painting, Brian. I find animals near impossible to get right – even as a small portion of an overall composition!

This is really good, and you’ve captured the light and an impression of the arid heat of the Savannah.

  • Brian Towers replied

    Thanks Colin,
I got a lot of animal CDs from the curator of Ohio Zoo last year and this is a compulation of 3 photos. As a thank you I sent him this painting. I was chuffed when he said how pleasantly surprised and pleased he was to get it.

  • Linda Callaghan

Yes another excellent painting Brian. I love the way you get the detail …perfectly painted. I will have to keep checking on you to make sure I dont miss anything.

  • Brian Towers replied

Thanks Linda. You are always so encouraging and dependable I reckon I can use you as a guide to see if my uploads are getting as far as Australia in furture.

Incidently, have you ever used W & N Griffin oil paint? I ask because I found it didn’t smell, dried in a few hours and was very easy and forgiving. It can be used quite thinly, almost like watercolour, and you can even use other mediums over it once dry.

  • Linda Callaghan

Hi Brian…no I have never heard of them does the W & N stand for Windsor and Newton..I will check it out thank you for that….yes you can use me as your ”’watchlist’ scanner no probs! :-D they do have a looong way to travel over here :-P

  • Brian Towers replied

Good on yer Linda! Yes, that is Windor and Newton paint. It’s technically an oil modified Alkid – or so it says on the tube – which I guess means it is a combination of acrylic of oil, but they classify it as oil and it works the same. I’ve introduced it of quite a few friends and they have become sold on it. Well worth trying a couple of tubes or perhaps picking up one of W & Ns leaflets on it.

Barbara Keith (the animal artist) put me in touch with a US Zoo curator who kindly sent me hundreds of photos on CD of animals. I sent him this painting taken from a couple of his shots as a thank you.
