Another Night Experiment

Still working on refining my night shots.

Finally starting to get the results that I am aiming for. Still not happy with foreground, but I think I know what to tweak to get it how I want it.

This was taken down at Newport Beach last Saturday night… a crappy night (again).... I seem to have the weather gods against me lately….. I don’t want much… just a full moon and a 50% – 60% low cloud cover.

    Taken at 5:15PM (15min after sunset), with a 10stop ND filter f11 about 288 seconds. One of the things I don’t like about Redbubble is the lack of exif data. If you want to study all the settings, click here to see my meta data on Flickr

    The image you enquired about was actually shot at dusk (just after sunset) with a 10 stop ND filter and from memory a 5 min exposure.

    You need a cable release so you can lock your camera open for more than the 30sec timer that most cameras have (using bulb setting). Tripod is a must…. so is a glass of wine to sip on while the camera is exposing.

    Everything slows down when doing night work.

    Go have fun and experiment.
