Cake Girl

There was a hair in my cake

I wondered whose it was

It kept me up for nights

Just thinking

Did it belong to the person who baked it

Or to someone else

I knew it wasn’t mine

Much too long

Much too fine

I became obessed

Put an ad in the daily newspapers

I got no reply

That hair was on my mind so much

It began tasting better than the cake

I look at all those unsolved mysteries of the world

And I know mine will be another

I bet it belonged to a woman

I picture her beautiful

She sits there

Knowing something’s missing

And I know what it is

I know there’s no way either of us will be whole again
